Apple awarded major 'iWallet' patent for future NFC-enabled iPhone
Apple on Tuesday was granted a significant patent by the United States Trademark & Patent Office, Patently Apple reported. The technology, which is supported by 23 Patent Claims, allows credit card companies to send statements directly to a user’s iTunes account for purchases made using an NFC-enabled iPhone. Account holders will also be able to allow a secondary account holder, such as a child, to make purchases on the same card while allowing the primary account holder to control spending and implement various limits. Even though NFC technology has been featured in a number of Android devices, some believe that the technology won’t go mainstream in a number of markets until an iPhone is equipped with a mobile payment solution.
Apple increases download limit for OTA App Store downloads
Apple has finally decided to increase the download limit for the App Store. Previously, if you had to download an app, podcast or any other content on your iOS device using the network connection, you would have to put up with the 20MB download limit or choose to download it over Wi-Fi instead.
Now with the launch of the new iPad, Apple has relaxed this restriction a bit and will now allow you to download content up to 50MB over your network connection, although anything beyond that will still require Wi-Fi. That should be enough for most apps, podcasts and songs but it would have been nice if Apple had increased it a bit further or at least provided the option to remove the limit for those on unlimited data plans.

Apple App Store crosses the 25 billion downloads mark
If you've been to Apple's homepage in the past couple of weeks you may have seen the counter for the App Store downloads, which was rapidly approaching the 25 billion downloads mark.
Well today, on March 3, 2012, the counter finally crossed that mark, creating a new milestone for the company. But while Apple must surely celebrating this event, it has made sure that it won't be the only one celebrating. That's because as part of their traditional contest, which is held every time such a milestone is about to be crossed, the person who downloaded the 25 billionth app will be getting store credit worth $10,000 to spend on any of Apple's online stores. That's a lot of money to spend only on the store, which means whoever won this prize will probably never have to shell out a single dime from his or her pocket to purchase anything from Apple's store ever again.
The winner of this contest hasn't been announced yet but will be displayed shortly on Apple's website. And of course, if you're the winner, you will be contacted directly by someone from Apple.

Apple wins another injunction against Motorola in Germany
The legal battle between Apple and Motorola continues but the latest round goes to the team from Cupertino. Apple has managed to win an injunction against Motorola for its patent regarding the bounce animation displayed in the photo gallery, as was first seen on the iPhone and then later on copied in Motorola devices (along with almost every other touchscreen device out there today).
Thanks to this injunction, Apple can now enforce the ruling, if it so wishes, which would require Motorola to destroy all the existing offending devices in its possession Germany and recall those the remaining ones from German retailers.
Having said that, this does not mean that Motorola could never sell those devices in Germany again, as the fix is relatively easy. All Motorola has to do is modify the photo gallery on its devices such that it does not violate Apple's patent and they could legally start selling the devices again (assuming Apple enforces the ruling).

Apple required to give $15 or Bumper case to iPhone 4 buyers
The Antennagate situation continues to haunt Apple, as the results of the class-action lawsuit against the company are out and are not in the company's favor. Apple will now be required to give either $15 in cash or a free Bumper case to every iPhone 4 customers in the US.
People in the US who have bought the iPhone 4 will have to visit the website www.iPhone4Settlement.com (which isn't working yet), where they will get more information on how they can claim their money or the free case. Apple will also be required to send a reminder email to its iPhone 4 customers before April 30.
As you may be aware, the whole Antennagate situation started with the launch of the iPhone 4 in 2010, where certain users noticed that covering the strip around the side of the phone during a call would result in drop in signal and eventually disconnection of the call. Apple eventually responded with a media event, where they offered to give free Bumper cases to iPhone 4 buyers but only till September 30, 2010. Following this, multiple lawsuits were filed against Apple regarding this situation, the result of which we are now seeing.
Thankfully for the users (and Apple), the iPhone 4S does not have any problem due to a reworked antenna system.
