Apple awarded major 'iWallet' patent for future NFC-enabled iPhone

apple-iwallet-patent

Apple on Tuesday was granted a significant patent by the United States Trademark & Patent Office, Patently Apple reported. The technology, which is supported by 23 Patent Claims, allows credit card companies to send statements directly to a user’s iTunes account for purchases made using an NFC-enabled iPhone. Account holders will also be able to allow a secondary account holder, such as a child, to make purchases on the same card while allowing the primary account holder to control spending and implement various limits. Even though NFC technology has been featured in a number of Android devices, some believe that the technology won’t go mainstream in a number of markets until an iPhone is equipped with a mobile payment solution.

Apple required to give $15 or Bumper case to iPhone 4 buyers

The Antennagate situation continues to haunt Apple, as the results of the class-action lawsuit against the company are out and are not in the company's favor. Apple will now be required to give either $15 in cash or a free Bumper case to every iPhone 4 customers in the US.

People in the US who have bought the iPhone 4 will have to visit the website www.iPhone4Settlement.com (which isn't working yet), where they will get more information on how they can claim their money or the free case. Apple will also be required to send a reminder email to its iPhone 4 customers before April 30.

As you may be aware, the whole Antennagate situation started with the launch of the iPhone 4 in 2010, where certain users noticed that covering the strip around the side of the phone during a call would result in drop in signal and eventually disconnection of the call. Apple eventually responded with a media event, where they offered to give free Bumper cases to iPhone 4 buyers but only till September 30, 2010. Following this, multiple lawsuits were filed against Apple regarding this situation, the result of which we are now seeing.

Thankfully for the users (and Apple), the iPhone 4S does not have any problem due to a reworked antenna system.

GPP SIM insert unlocks the AT&T iPhone 4S, no jailbreak needed

The carrier-locked iPhones became a much lesser problem since the iPhone hit most of the major carriers worldwide. But there are those people who still buy foreign carrier-locked iPhone for various reasons. Most of the locked iPhones come from USA's AT&T, so the GPP SIM tool should be good news for those people.

The GPP SIM tool reportedly unlocks successfully every AT&T-bound iPhone 4S as well as the Japan's KDDI and Softbank iPhone 4S. As with similar solutions such as Gevey and RebelSIM, you just put your SIM along with the insert into the provided SIM tray and insert the lot into the iPhone. That's it. Here is the video showing how the GPP SIM works.

According to the GPP Team, the GPP SIM unlocks every AT&T iPhone 4S phones running iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.01 no jailbreak needed. There is no mention whether the GPP SIM will work with other carrier-locked iPhones as well.

The thing that the GPP Team forgot to mention is the activation process. Even if that tool works properly, you still need to go through the Apple's servers for authentication. Of course, any active or inactive AT&T/KDDI/Softbank SIM card will do the trick and you should be able to get one from eBay.

The GPP SIM tool is not yet available, but it should be out soon. There is no website where you can check if it is available, but we bet you won?t miss the news for its release.
