LG announces the Optimus 4X HD, to be showcased at the MWC 2012

Another day, another new LG phone. Today we will be talking about the new Optimus 4X HD, one of the most exciting phones to come out of LG recently. From the name you can tell that it will be a successor to the Optimus 2X, which it is, and it improves upon the older model in almost every way.

For starters, you have a massive 4.7-inch, 1280 x 720 resolution IPS display. Powering it will be Nvidia's Tegra 3 processor with its 4-PLUS-1 architecture, featuring four performance cores handling graphic intensive tasks and one companion core for everything else. Then there is 1GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory, 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera, MHL, DLNA and a 2,150mAh battery. Despite all of this though the phone will only be 8.9mm thick.

The Optimus 4X HD will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, but LG will also be running its custom skin on top, as can be seen from the pictures. Also, the Optimus 4X HD will have dedicated keys below the display, unlike the virtual keys on the Galaxy Nexus.

The Optimus 4X HD will go on sale in Europe in the second quarter of this year. For more information, we will have to wait for MWC.

LG announces Optimus 3D Cube smartphone

After announcing the three new L-series smartphones yesterday, LG has yet another phone to announce before MWC. This one is the successor to the Optimus 3D and is called the Optimus 3D Cube.

The Optimus 3D Cube improves upon its successor by having a newer, thinner design, which is just 9.6mm thick compared to the 11.9mm thickness of the previous phone. It also has a slightly bigger battery, 1.2GHz processor instead of 1GHz, 16GB memory instead of 8GB and comes with NFC built-in. Another addition is the ability to not only capture 3D images and videos but also be able to edit 3D images directly on the phone.

Apart from this the new Optimus 3D Cube is similar to the old one, with the same 4.3-inch, glassess-free 3D WVGA IPS display and dual 5 megapixel cameras at the back for recording 3D stills and 1080p video. The Optimus 3D Cube will be running on Android 2.3, with an Ice Cream Sandwich update hopefully arriving soon.

The phone will launch in South Korea on SK Telecom in March but we will be getting to see it sooner at MWC next week.

LG's Optimus lineup hands-on - 4X HD, Vu, 3D Max, L7, L3, and LTE

LG will officially hit the MWC 2012 floor on February 26 - that's Sunday but we already have a pretty good idea what devices the Korean manufacturer will showcase. The Optimus L series was announced just a couple of days ago - the L7, L5 and L3. The 5" Optimus Vu was announced last week.

The LG Optimus 4X HD, successor to LG's first dual-core device - Optimus 2X, was announced yesterday. While the 3D Max went official two days ago.

So the cat is pretty much out of the bag prior to the Mobile World Congress and there should be no surprises. Now thanks to Italian website Telefonino.net there are a bunch of hands-on pictures and videos of the new LG Optimus smartphones, which we plan to organize for you guys to enjoy.

The LG Optimus 4X HD is LG's first quad-core device. On the front there's a 4.7" 720 x 1280 HD-IPS LCD touchscreen that offers around 312 pixels per inch. It runs on the latest Android version - 4.0.3 with a heavily customized skin over it.

Here's the video of the 4X HD in action.

Here's Telefonino.net original article.

The Optimus Vu is a direct competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Note. It has a 4:3 768 x 1024 display ranging 5 inches in diagonal. A dual-core 1.5 GHz processor does the heavy lifting and Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 runs on the front end.

It also offers a hardware pen interface just like the Note so you can draw on it.

Successor to the Optimus 3D, the Optimus 3D Max comes with Android Gingerbread 2.3.6, a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and dual 5 MP cameras on the back.

LG Optimus 3D Max

It's thinner than the Optimus 3D but really doesn't come as a huge improvement to its predecessor.

The Optimus L7 got pictured too. The full specs are still a mystery, we know it's a dual-core device, runs Android 4.0 ICS and has a 4.3" "floating mass display", meaning its closer to the surface of the device.

There's a 5 MP camera on the back complete with a single LED flash.

There's also NFC aboard. We're eager to get our hands on the L7 at the MWC and we will bring you more information.

The Optimus L3 is a small device with a 3.2" display up front.

It runs on Gingerbread and should be reasonably priced.

The LG Optimus LTE isn't exactly new. It's almost identical to the Nitro HD, which we've already reviewed.

It too go a video preview. It's running on Android Gingerbread, has an 8 MP snapper, a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor and an HD 720 x 1280 4.5" display.

LG Optimus 4X HD, 3D Max and Vu get the hands-on treatment

The Italians are on a roll with the hands-on videos. After a hands-on video of the Acer CloudMobile by Cellular Magazine, we now have a trio of hands-on videos of the latest LG smartphones by Telefonino.net.

The first one, which we have embedded below, is of the Optimus 4X HD, which runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and has a 4.7-inch HD display.

As you can see in the video above, LG's UI customizations aren't as extensive as Samsung or HTC's. You can easily tell that the phone is running on ICS, but they have added some touches that would help them differentiate their product without going overboard. The lockscreen, for example, is different, with a new unlock method, large date and time display and the presence four shortcut buttons below. The homescreen has a different dock and different animation for homescreen navigation. LG has also changed the way you add widgets on the homescreen by adding a Honeycomb-like drawer at the bottom.

The application menu is similar to stock ICS but includes another tab for downloaded apps. You can see more customizations in the video, such as the use of different icons and a navigation bar at the bottom of the browser.

You can check out the Gingerbread running Optimus 3D Max and Optimus Vu in the second and third source links below, respectively.

LG X3 will hit the market as Optimus 4X HD

LG's upcoming X3 flagship, which we've told you about before, reportedly got its retail name outed. The NVIDIA Tegra 3 packing quad-core powerhouse with a massive 4.7" screen, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and serious appetite for benchmarks will hit the shelves as LG Optimus 4X HD. Such an occurrence seems quite logical, given the fact that the device will be a successor of sorts to the LG Optimus 2X, whose name directly suggested the number of CPU cores on tap.

Rumor has it that the U.S. version of the smartphone will be named T-Mobile G4X - much like the LG Optimus 2X's sibling, which was sold under the name G2X by the Big Magenta.

We will know everything about the LG X3 in a few days time, during MWC in Barcelona. We will be covering it live as always, and it looks like we will be spending significant amount of time around LG's booth, given the slew of devices which it announced in the past couple of days.

LG Optimus 3D Max is official, gives you more 3D enhancements

LG just unveiled the glasses-free 3D smartphone Optimus 3D Max. The announcements comes hot on the heels of the Optimus 3D Cube and the two smartphones are almost identical in terms of specs.

The LG Optimus 3D Max sports the same 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, dual 5MP camera, NFC capabilities and even Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box. ICS updates for both should come right after they launch.

Differences come from the 3D Max's screen, which is a conventional WVGA 4.3 LCD, rather than Cube's 4.3-inch NOVA display and the internal memory, which is only 8GB for the Max.

LG Optimus 3D Max

As the name of the smartphone suggests, there are some stereoscopic extras on board the 3D Max not found in the Cube. For example, the Max features an HD Converter, which upconverts games and apps to HD resolution when connected to an HDTV via MHL. There's also a 3D converter, which converts 2D apps like Google Earth and Google Maps to 3D.

The camera of the Optimus 3D Max has also visited the LG feature factory and got a range finder and selective focus shooting. We'll be getting to try those features at the MWC, starting next week and we'll make sure to keep you updated on their real life performance.

The Optimus 3D Max will hit in Korea in March with global availability coming up shortly after.

LG Optimus LTE Tag announced, comes with NFC tags

We're a week away from the MWC but the announcements of new phones keep flooding in - the latest is the LG Optimus LTE Tag, an LTE-enabled droid. Its other highlight is the NFC technology and accompanying tags.

LG calls them Tag Plus and several will be available with the Optimus LTE Tag. The phone will detect these NFC tags and perform some customizable action - e.g. launch the SatNav app when it sees the car tag, turn on the Wi-Fi in your office, set up tomorrow's alarm when you put it on the nightstand and so on.

It's a very similar concept to the Sony Smart Tags, but the LG Tags Plus will be stickers and you'll get sheets of them with the Optimus LTE Tag, both pre-defined and blank ones and users will be able customize what each of them does.

Other than that, the phone is like a smaller Optimus LTE (which also has NFC). The LTE Tag has a 4.3" IPS LCD screen with 650 nits of brightness, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a MHL port. The LG Optimus LTE Tag will launch in South Korea with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

There are still some unknown detail, like camera resolution and pricing and availability. The Optimus LTE is available in the States, so maybe the Optimus LTE Tag will be too, but there's no official info on that.

LG officially announces the Optimus Vu

We've seen this one before in a teaser video and then photographed alongside its arch nemesis, the Galaxy Note. But LG has now officially launched the Optimus Vu in Korea and it comes with everything we have heard so far.

For starters, you get a 5-inch IPS display with a 1024 x 768 resolution, which gives it an aspect ratio of 4:3. The display has a pixel density of 256 PPI, which is just short of Galaxy Note's 285 PPI.

Due to the 4:3 aspect ratio, the Optimus (90.4mm) Vu is wider than the Galaxy Note (83mm), which will make it even more difficult to handle. It is marginally thinner (8.5mm) than the Note (9.7mm) but that's not going to matter much when you hold it in your hand.

Other than that the Optimus Vu has a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8660 processor with Adreno 220 GPU, 32GB internal memory, 8 megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash, 1.3 megapixel front camera, LTE, HDMI, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct and T-DMB and a 2,080 mAh battery. The phone will launch with Android 2.3 Gingerbread but will soon be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Optimus Vu will be available on SK Telecom and LG+ carriers in South Korea in early March. Pricing details are as yet unavailable.
